This is a small independent English-language guide to Shibuya in Tokyo: the Scramble Crossing, the Hachiko statue, SHIBUYA SKY and the streets around the station, plus the nearby districts a visitor is likely to combine with them, such as Harajuku, Ebisu and Shimokitazawa. It is written and maintained by one person, independently.

It is not an official website. This site is not affiliated with Shibuya City, with SHIBUYA SKY or Shibuya Scramble Square, with Tokyu or any other railway, or with any shop, bar, hotel or venue mentioned on these pages. Nobody pays to appear here.

How we decide what goes on the site

Every page starts from sources we can name: the SHIBUYA SKY official ticket page and FAQ, the Shibuya City newsletter and ordinances, the Tokyo Metropolitan Police, JNTO, the Japan Meteorological Agency, the operators’ own pages, and dated reports in the Japanese and English-language press. Where sources disagree, and in Shibuya they often do (on how many people use the crossing, on dates in Hachiko’s story, on what a rooftop costs), we say which figure we used and why.

Some well-known claims have no measured source. Shibuya Crossing is often called the world’s busiest pedestrian crossing, for example, but nobody has published a count that proves it. We say so rather than repeat it as fact.

Prices, opening hours and local rules carry the month we checked them. Shibuya is in the middle of a station rebuild that runs to FY2034, so exits, walkways and viewpoints change. Please confirm with the operator before you travel.

Tours and how we make money

Tours on this site link to GetYourGuide. If you book through one of those links we earn a small commission, and the price you pay is the same as it would be otherwise. Some pages that link to hotels may also earn a commission through Stay22. We do not run the tours and we are not GetYourGuide. The full explanation is on our affiliate disclosure page.

Tell us when we are wrong

Ticket prices go up, a gate moves, a rooftop closes for renovation. If you find something out of date or plainly wrong on this site, email info@shibuya-japan.com with the page and what you saw. Corrections are welcome; we would rather hear it from you than leave it standing.
