Shibuya Station is served by nine lines from JR East, Tokyo Metro, Tokyu and Keio. For the Scramble Crossing and the Hachiko statue, follow signs for the Hachiko exit; JR's Hachiko Gate moved on 26 January 2025 and no longer faces the square. Tokyu lockers cost ¥300 to ¥900 a day, and the station is being rebuilt until FY2034.
Shibuya Station is where nine train lines from four companies meet: JR East, Tokyo Metro, Tokyu and Keio. For the Scramble Crossing and the Hachiko statue, follow the signs for the Hachiko exit. Be aware that JR moved its Hachiko Gate on 26 January 2025, and the new gate no longer faces Hachiko Square. The station is also mid-rebuild: the last big tower is due in FY2031 and the whole area in FY2034, so old maps and old advice are often wrong.
This guide covers the lines, the exits that matter, coin lockers, IC cards and the train from Shinjuku.

The Hachiko Gate moved on 26 January 2025
Until January 2025 the JR Hachiko Gate opened straight onto Hachiko Square. On 26 January 2025 JR East closed every gate facing the square and opened a new Hachiko Gate on the free passage towards Miyamasuzaka, about 60 m from the old one. The stairs from there down to the Shibuchika underground mall closed at the same time, and the old square-facing gates are not coming back. Reports say the number of gates fell from 17 to 14 and that staff send people to the South gate or West exit when the new gate is crowded. From the new gate, follow the signs for the Hachiko exit and the Crossing.
Two other moves catch people out. The New South gate moved into the new station building on 21 July 2024, and the West Exit passageway and entrances were reported to have moved on 30 March 2025.
Shibuya station map: how the station fits together
Think of the station as four sides. The west side has Hachiko Square, the Crossing, Mark City (with the Keio Inokashira Line and the airport bus stop at the Excel Hotel) and the bus terminal. The east side has Shibuya Hikarie and the Miyamasuzaka slope. The north side leads along the tracks to Miyashita Park and Nonbei Yokocho. The south side, through the New South gate, opens onto Shibuya Stream and the river walkway.
Shibuya Scramble Square rises above the middle of it all, with the SHIBUYA SKY rooftop on top. SHIBUYA SKY does not allow suitcases or large bags, so leave them in a station locker first.
Because the station keeps changing, use the signs in front of you rather than a map you saved months ago. If you get lost, ask for “Hachiko hiroba” (Hachiko Square). The Shibuya Crossing & Hidden Streets Walking Tour meets in Mark City and ends at Hachiko, which is a quick way to learn the west side on your first day.

Coin lockers and luggage storage
Tokyu runs the lockers on its Toyoko and Den-en-toshi lines. Its official prices:
| Tokyu locker size |
Price per day |
| Slim |
¥300 |
| Small |
¥500 |
| Large |
¥600 |
| Extra-large |
¥900 |
Checked October 2026, Tokyu coin locker page. Prices vary by location and the price shown on the locker applies. Since 1 August 2026 some Tokyu lockers use time-based variable pricing, marked 変動料金制 on the locker. Lockers work from first to last train, a new day’s fee is added after 02:00, and after three days your bag goes to a locker centre for up to a month with daily storage fees. The Shibuya Coin Locker Management Center is on 03-3462-1970, 09:00 to 19:00.
JR East and Tokyo Metro do not publish their Shibuya locker prices, so check the locker itself. Third-party guides say lockers often fill by midday. For live availability and reservable lockers, use multiecube, run by JR EAST Smart Logistics, which SHIBUYA SKY links for the station area.
Other options: the shibuya-san tourist information centre on 1F of Shibuya Fukuras stores large luggage while space lasts, and Hikarie Conference on Hikarie 11F has reservation-only luggage storage.
IC cards: Suica, Welcome Suica and PASMO
Use an IC card. Since JR East’s fare rise on 14 March 2026, IC fares are cheaper than paper tickets on JR East, and they are on Tokyo Metro too.
- Welcome Suica: the visitor card. No deposit, valid for 28 days, works on trains, subways, buses and the Tokyo Monorail, and in shops, vending machines and coin lockers. A phone version, Welcome Suica Mobile, also exists. JR East Welcome Suica
- Standard Suica: ¥500 deposit, refundable with the balance. JR East Suica
- PASMO: works on the same trains. Check pasmo.co.jp for which visitor versions are on sale.

Checked October 2026. JR fares are calculated from JR East’s March 2026 fare table using the line distance; Tokyo Metro fares are from Tokyo Metro’s fare page. The Shinagawa time is a hotel’s figure and the Asakusa time comes from third-party guides.
The Saikyo and Shonan-Shinjuku lines also link Shinjuku and Shibuya. For whether to sleep in one or the other, see Shibuya vs Shinjuku. From the airports, see Haneda to Shibuya and Narita to Shibuya, and for hotels a few minutes from these exits, where to stay in Shibuya.
