The round trip saves ¥1,460 against two one-way tickets, so buy it if you fly home from Narita.

N’EX disruption, 6 to 8 November 2026

Tunnel works on the Yokosuka and Sobu lines cut the N’EX short. From about 19:40 on Friday 6 November to about 08:00 on Sunday 8 November 2026, the N’EX runs only between Narita and Tokyo Station, with no trains to Shinjuku, Shibuya or Ofuna. Change at Tokyo Station to the JR Yamanote Line for Shibuya. The same works ran on 4 to 6 September 2026. Details: JR East notice.

Airport Limousine Bus

The bus goes from Narita to three Shibuya stops: Shibuya Station, Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel and Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu in Mark City. The fare is the same to all three.

Older guides give ¥3,200; the operator now charges ¥3,600. Shibuya Excel Hotel Tokyu and Cerulean Tower both tell guests to book this bus online in advance, and the Excel’s front desk does not book it. SHIBUYA STREAM HOTEL tells guests to take it to Cerulean Tower and use the hotel’s free taxi from there. The last bus is early evening, so a late flight means the train.

Cheaper: low-cost bus to Tokyo Station, then JR

The low-cost airport bus between Narita and Tokyo Station charges ¥1,500 one way, except on late-night and early-morning runs. Its fastest trip is 65 minutes, and traffic can make it longer (operator’s site). From Tokyo Station, take the JR Yamanote Line to Shibuya: ¥260 with a ticket or ¥253 with an IC card, calculated from JR East’s March 2026 fare table.

Leg Time Fare

The where to stay in Shibuya guide has the full list by area, and Shibuya vs Shinjuku compares the two bases.

Going back to Narita

The N’EX round trip covers your return within 14 days. If you bought tax-free goods on or after 1 November 2026, you pay full price in the shop and claim the consumption tax back when you leave: within 90 days of purchase, before check-in, scan your passport at a tax-free terminal in the departure lobby. A green result means you are done; a red one means customs wants to see the goods. Narita is one of the airports where you can start online through Visit Japan Web. Allow extra time.

After you arrive

Shibuya Station is being rebuilt until FY2034, so check the Shibuya Station guide for the exit nearest your hotel. A March 2025 JR East notice lists Travel Service Centers at Narita Terminal 1 and Terminal 2/3, plus vending machines at the airport stations, as places to buy Welcome Suica, its visitor IC card with no deposit. Since 14 March 2026, IC fares on JR East have been cheaper than paper tickets. And before you light up outside the station: Shibuya bans outdoor smoking ward-wide except at designated areas, with a ¥2,000 on-the-spot fine. For hotels where the airport bus stops at the door, see where to stay in Shibuya. Landing at Haneda instead? See Haneda to Shibuya.
