Shopping in Shibuya, building by building

Shibuya's shopping is packed into a few buildings a short walk from the station: Shibuya 109 for young women's fashion, Parco for designer labels and its 6th-floor game shops, Miyashita Park's mall, Tower Records and MEGA Don Quijote. From 1 November 2026, tax-free shoppers pay full price and claim the tax back at the airport.

Shopping in Shibuya means a handful of big buildings and two or three busy streets, all a short walk from the station. Shibuya 109 sells young women’s fashion over ten floors. Shibuya Parco has designer floors and, on 6F, Nintendo TOKYO and Pokemon Center SHIBUYA. Miyashita Park has a mall under its rooftop park, and Tower Records and MEGA Don Quijote cover music and everything else. Most shops open from 10:00 or 11:00 to 21:00.

One rule changes on 1 November 2026, when Japan’s tax-free system moves to a refund at the airport. That section is below. Shopping is also one part of a bigger list of things to do in Shibuya.

Shibuya 109 and MAGNET

The silver cylinder at the foot of Dogenzaka has sold fashion to young women since 1979 and was the centre of gyaru style in the 1990s and early 2000s. The official directory listed 105 entries across B2 to 8F in October 2026, from EMODA and MOUSSY on 2F to WEGO and Dr.Martens on 7F, with a tax-free counter on B1.

Across the crossing, MAGNET by Shibuya 109 is the more useful building for visitors who are not shopping for clothes. Its official floor list starts with a Bandai Namco Cross Store on B1, souvenirs and character goods on 1F, and anime, idol and game content on 5F and 6F. Its rooftop over the crossing costs ¥1,800 with one drink. The Shibuya 109 guide has the floor-by-floor table.

Shibuya Parco

Parco rebuilt its Shibuya store and reopened it on 22 November 2019. The fashion floors run from 1F to 5F, from global and independent labels on 2F to independent collection brands on 3F and a mix of fashion, vintage and art on 4F. The 6th floor, CYBERSPACE SHIBUYA, is the draw for many visitors: Nintendo TOKYO, Pokemon Center SHIBUYA, CAPCOM STORE TOKYO and JUMP SHOP, open 10:00 to 21:00.

Nintendo TOKYO uses free numbered tickets on Saturdays, Sundays, holidays and other busy days, one per person. Before 11:00 you reach 6F by Parco’s outdoor stairs, which open at 9:30. The Shibuya Parco guide has the full rules.

Miyashita Park

RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK is the mall under the rooftop park, split between a North and a South building. Travel guides count about 90 shops. Shops open 11:00 to 21:00 and the mall has its own tax-free counter. On the South building’s ground floor, Shibuya Yokocho’s food counters stay open late. The roof itself is a free park with a lawn and a skate park. See Miyashita Park.

Music, discount stores and food halls

Tower Records Shibuya, at 1-22-14 Jinnan, has filled its current nine-floor building since 1995 and opens 11:00 to 22:00, with irregular closing days. Guides describe it as one of the biggest record stores, and it has an event stage for in-store shows.

MEGA Don Quijote Shibuya Honten, at 28-6 Udagawacho, opened in its current form on 12 May 2017 with about 5,522 m² of floor space. GO TOKYO lists it as open 24 hours, with staff who speak English, Chinese and Korean. In April 2026 an Aniplex official anime store opened inside.

Tokyu Food Show fills 1F and B1 of Shibuya Mark City and the Shibuchika underground level, 10:00 to 21:00 daily: sweets on 1F, bento and bread on Shibuchika, fresh food on B1. It is the place for edible gifts. More food ideas are on the Shibuya restaurants page.

Streets to walk

Center Gai, from the crossing into Udagawacho, is lined with brand-name shops and fast food. Dogenzaka climbs past 109 on the other side. Both sit inside the station’s 18:00 to 05:00 street-drinking ban and the ward-wide ban on street touting.

Tax-free shopping from 1 November 2026

Japan’s tax-free system changes on 1 November 2026, according to JNTO, Japan’s national tourism organisation. Until 31 October, shops take the consumption tax off at the till. From 1 November there is no deduction in the shop: you pay full price and get the tax back when you leave.

Tax-free rule From 1 November 2026
In the shop Pay the full, tax-included price and keep the receipt
Minimum ¥5,000 (before tax) per shop per day
Goods No split between general goods and consumables; goods used or eaten in Japan do not qualify
Claim Within 90 days, at the airport before check-in, scan your passport at a tax-free terminal
Check Green result: done. Red: take the goods to customs for inspection
Receipts Each receipt is checked as one unit: if any item on it is missing, the whole receipt fails

Checked October 2026, from JNTO’s guide dated 20 July 2026. At Narita, Haneda and several other airports you can start the process online through Visit Japan Web. Keep the goods unused and with you until the check. How and when the refund is paid depends on the shop or its refund agent, so ask at the counter. The rule in force on the day you buy applies, so anything bought on 31 October or earlier follows the old system.

Harajuku or Shibuya for shopping?

Pick by what you want to buy. Shibuya is bigger buildings in one compact area: 109, Parco, Miyashita Park, Tower Records, Don Quijote and the game shops. Harajuku, one stop north on the Yamanote Line, has the roughly 400 m of Takeshita Street for youth fashion, and Omotesando, the zelkova-lined avenue from Meiji Jingu towards Aoyama. One stop apart, the two are easy to combine in a day.

For secondhand and vintage, look further out. Shimokitazawa is under 10 minutes from Shibuya on the Keio Inokashira Line. The Private Vintage Shopping Tour Near Shibuya meets you there and takes you to at least three vintage stores picked for your taste. It does not visit Shibuya itself. If you would rather see Parco and Tower Records with a guide, the Shibuya Walking Tour with SHIBUYA SKY Admission passes both before an hour on the SHIBUYA SKY roof.

For the rest of the district, start at the Shibuya Japan homepage.
